Look – I get it. Life isn’t easy. It is hard sometimes to find balance. You want more time to workout, but that takes time away from your family. As I said before, I have been there. I am someone who is a bit of a workaholic and as far back as 15, I always had multiple jobs. I was addicted to the hustle, and the freedom that the financials provided me. I grew up hearing about “bills”, and “budgets”, and always felt bad asking for money to do the things kids like to do and I never wanted to feel that way again. The hustle started and when you’re young – you are full of energy! But when you get out into the real world, have rent or a mortgage to pay, have a family to maintain, fur children or actual children – that energy easily fades and it’s easy to find yourself mindlessly scrolling Facebook, or face down in a bowl of salsa and chips on the couch after a long day in the office.
I HATED this state of “I want but I can’t have, because…”. For the longest time I just stayed stuck there! I would look in the mirror and see how tight the seams of my shorts were on my thighs, or I could see my stomach puffing out under my shirt so I would grab the fabric and stretch it forward to make it a bit more forgiving. In the summertime I would stare at myself in my bikini in the mirror and quickly throw on a cover up and say “Who sees my stomach? Only my legs and arms need to be tan – I’ll just keep this on”. I
took pills from GNC, bought whatever I could find on the TV (Total Gym, anyone?), went to Zumba class and even got certified! – nothing was getting me to where I wanted to be. I felt hopeless, like no one understood how it felt, and like this was just my destiny. There were many nights of crying into a bowl of ice cream, because I felt like I had no way out, and why bother? And truth be told – I wasn’t even overweight! I just knew that I could be better, stronger, and healthier and I wanted it so badly that it hurt.
If I can get through all of that, then I am telling you that you can too. It was a journey, but I learned so much along the way and actually saw myself changing in mind, body, and spirit and felt inspired to help other women out there who felt the same.
