How to Thrive under Pressure

One of the most common things I hear in my coaching business is “I don’t have time”. Time – 24 hours in a day – the same as everyone else, right? If everyone else can do it, so can you – right? Wrong! Sometimes it can be very difficult to thrive under pressure.

The fact of the matter is, we may all have 24 hours in our day; however, there are different personality types out there that see that in a variety of ways – and how you view those 24 hours determines how much you can squeeze out of them. Do we all have 24 hours in a day? Yes! Can we all make the same kind of juice from them? No.

Twenty-four hours for me, may not be the same as 24 hours for you; however, here are a few tips and tricks that I have used in the past to thrive under pressure:

  1. Breathe.  The most important tip that I can give you to thrive while you are under pressure, and one that I often times forget myself, is to breathe. More than likely, no one is going to die if you don’t get all of that laundry done because your Grad paper took precedent over your white load that night. I would venture to guess that anything that you had to put on the back burner to get your more important tasks done did not create a make-it-or-break-it type of situation. Acknowledge that you

The way that each of us thrive under pressure is different, but here are 3 tips that can help you try and figure your way out.

ARE only one person (even if somedays you might hear voices in your head, or think you have multiple personalities..haha..I’m joking – I think…) and that you will get it all done eventually, just maybe not right now.

  2. Focus on The One Thing: Choose one task that is really creating the little grey cloud over your head and tackle it. Thrive over it.Sometimes this might not be your most important task! Sometimes it’s going to be that task that you have had to “move to tomorrow” for the past 2 weeks. Get it done now, because the anxiety that it is causing is holding you back from getting your more important tasks done. Then take a breath, and start on an important task next.
  3. Turn the world OFF: For some of us – that’s a scary thing to do! Phones on silent, Facebook notifications off, no private messages – Oh no! What ever will we do without 5 million various ways of communication hovering around our heads as we try and focus on what needs done?! Well…we might just (dare I say it) focus? Thrive?Get yourself into “the zone” when you have an important task to get done and focus on THAT ONE TASK. Get it done and do it well! You will be AMAZED and how much more effective AND efficient you are when you close yourself off to the rest of the world for even just 15 minutes at a time.

Will this solve the problem of finding more time in your day? No, not at all. I’m sorry, but no matter how hard we try we cannot make there be a 25 hour day, or a 30 hour day – but we can try little life hacks to squeeze more out of our day and to thrive more than we did the day prior.

Is there a way that you find you thrive under pressure? Leave me a comment! I’d love to consider adding your method into my bag of tricks!
